Steelers hosting free agent running back Monday

After the news of Monte Pottebaum going on the Reserve/Retired List Sunday, it left the Pittsburgh Steelers with an open roster spot. For teams in the midst of training camp, you don’t carry 89 players on your offseason roster, you carry the NFL maximum 90. Camp bodies or not, you don’t want to risk possibly having to play the players you will be relying on during the regular season more than absolutely necessary.

According to Jordan Shultz, the Steelers are hosting free agent running back ZaQuandre White.

The news of White visiting could have a couple different meanings for the Steelers. As stated earlier, it could be to bolster the running back position with an extra roster spot now available. Another aspect of this is the shoulder injury to running back Alfonzo Graham. Graham was seen in a sling after landing on his shoulder in the early portions of camp.

Even if Graham isn’t injured to the point where he would be placed on Injured Reserve (IR), the Steelers would want to have another running back in camp to lessen the load on both Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

There is likely more news coming regarding this story. It could be with the signing of White being official, or it could be in Graham being placed on IR, ending his season before it even began. Either way, be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for their first padded practice of training camp Tuesday.
