4 Teams Who Could Be Buyers At The 2024 MLB Trade Deadline

The MLB regular season is seven weeks old now and teams are beginning to solidify their positions in the standings. This is especially true for teams that will not compete for the postseason.

Through 40 games, teams begin knowing what they are going to be this season. While it remains the middle of May, front offices around the country can begin to plan for the summer. This means whether they decide to buy and attempt to make a run or sell and prepare for 2025.

Below, take a look at four teams that can be potential buyers come the MLB Trade Deadline.

4. Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs brought back Cody Bellinger and added free-agent Shota Imanaga this offseason. Dansby Swanson was already part of the future. It was an interesting offseason for the Cubs and they find themselves in the mix for the NL Central title. If the Cubs believe there is a path to the postseason, they could look to add some short-term help.

3. San Diego Padres

It seems as though the San Diego Padres are always buying. With the presence of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, the Padres will likely have to focus on a Wild Card spot. San Diego already played a card that shows its intent. The Padres made a trade for second baseman Luis Arraez with the Miami Marlins. The Padres added one of the best pure hitters in the game and this showed priority to compete right away.

2. New York Yankees

The New York Yankees already bought in the offseason. Yes, Marcus Stroman and Alex Verdugo were nice additions. The Bronx Bombers made a big splash by acquiring Juan Soto in a trade. While he is set to hit free agency, Soto is here for 2024 and the Yankees need to be all in. The offense has proven to be inconsistent and who knows how long the pitching can hold up. If there are bullpen arms or platoon players available at the deadline, the Yanks should be aggressive in pursuit of a World Series title.

1. Seattle Mariners

This was supposed to be the year of the Seattle Mariners. It has been a decent start but the Mariners seem to be taking advantage of a weak AL West. Seattle should be able to compete for a division title but the goal is much larger. Julio Rodriguez is the face of the franchise and there are many other pieces in place. The Mariners came into the year with a World Series in mind and it will take some more help moving forward.
