Way-Too-Early American League Rookie Of The Year Rankings

The 2024 MLB season is just two weeks old but there are many rookies that have made an impact already.

This class of prospects is one of the most-anticipated in years and have already shown their stripes. There are many that look like big-league stars for years to come.

Below, take a look at the top five American League Rookie of the Year candidates early in the year.

1. Wyatt Langford, Texas Rangers

Langford was playing for the Florida Gators last year before being taken fourth-overall in the 2023 MLB Draft. Now, he is making an impact for the reigning World Series champions. Langford made the big-league roster out of camp and picked up a hit in his first five games in Texas. He has not yet shown off his power, with two extra-bases its and no home runs, but he has that ability moving forward.

2. Evan Carter, Texas Rangers

Carter got a chance to shine during the Rangers’ postseason run in 2023 but remains in the ROY conversation due to time served. He has struggled a bit to begin the season but brings great talent to the lineup. The duo of Langford and Carter is one that Ranger fans are hoping to rely on for years to come.

3. Jackson Holliday, Baltimore Orioles

For some reason, the Orioles decided to keep Holliday in Triple-A to begin the season after batting .311 in Spring Training. He sent a long home run over the wall in his first at-bat for Norfolk and his stay did not last long. Holliday made his big-league debut on Wednesday and drove in a run. Baltimore placed him at second base to begin his career. Holliday is baseball’s No. 1 prospect and has all of the makings of a star.

4. Colt Keith, Detroit Tigers

The Tigers signed Keith to a six-year deal during the offseason. It is clear that the organization is comfortable with hitching their wagon to Keith as the second baseman of the future. So far, he has played in 11 games and shown off a good eye at the plate. He ripped a go-ahead double against the New York Mets in the 11th inning during the first week of the year. Like any rookie, Keith is going to go through his good and bad stretches but the tigers have liked what they’ve seen so far.

5. Colton Cowser, Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore has the top farm system in baseball and it might not be close. Top to bottom, the Orioles have built an elite group of young players. This includes Cowser, who has spent time as a backup outfielder early on. He had a big spring with six home runs. During the regular season, he has gone 8-for-19 with seven RBI.
