Steelers expected to retain running backs coach Eddie Faulkner

The Pittsburgh Steelers made some serious moves on their roster Monday afternoon when they cut three players, mostly for salary cap purposes. The team isn’t done with their roster moves, but they also aren’t done finalizing their coaching staff either. After hiring three new coaches at the end of last week, it is now being reported the team will be retaining running backs coach Eddie Faulkner.

This per NFL Insider Aaron Wilson:

If the report is correct, and others are reporting the same, Faulkner joins Teryl Austin as coaches who were not just retained but given new contracts prior to the 2024 season.

Faulkner, who took over offensive coordinator duties last season after Matt Canada’s departure, is highly regarded in the organization and has gotten results out of the running backs on the current roster. In fact, last season saw both Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris both get over 1,000 total yards from scrimmage.

While Faulkner got a new deal, the future of Mike Sullivan, who called plays and was the co-coordinator with Faulkner, remains unclear. The Steelers hired Thomas Arth as the new quarterbacks coach, so you have to wonder if Sullivan is retained what his position would be under new coordinator Arthur Smith.
