Steelers officially release three players, including Mitch Trubisky and Chuks Okorafor

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the start of free agency on March 13th, but before they get ready to sign any new players they have to free up necessary salary cap space in order to do so. After it was reported the team is going to part ways with Mitch Trubisky, the team announced three players being released from the team.

Those players were: QB Mitch Trubisky, OL Chuks Okorafor and P Pressley Harvin III. This from the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

When it comes to salary cap space, all three of these moves will save the Steelers money on the 2024 salary cap.

Mitch Trubisky: $2.94 million dollars

Chuks Okorafor: $8.75 million

Pressley Harvin: $1.05 million

There are likely more moves to be made, but two of these moves, Trubisky and Okorafor, were just a matter of time. While those two departures were expected, the release of Harvin is certainly worth noting. Harvin was drafted by the Steelers, and someone the team stuck by even during some very inconsistent stretches in play. Nonetheless, while everyone assumed the team would simply bring in competition for Harvin, it seems the Steelers are determined to improve the punter position this offseason from outside the organization.

As stated earlier, there are more moves to be made, and you will want to keep tabs on what the Steelers do now to help put themselves in a position to be players in free agency.
