Pat Freiermuth active in Week 11 for the Steelers as expected

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now less than 90 minutes away from kickoff in their first AFC North road game coming in Week 11 of the 2023 NFL season. Coming off back-to-back wins, the Steelers are looking to strengthen their divisional record and keep them with as many tiebreakers as possible.

As is always the case, 90 minutes before kickoff is when teams must announce their inactive list for the upcoming game. With 48 players active for each team, the number of players on the inactive list depends on if a team makes any practice squad elevations. With the Steelers elevating two practice squad players on Saturday but only having 52 players on the roster, they will have six inactives while the Browns have five players on their inactive list.

New to the 2023 season is a modified return of the “third quarterback rule.” Every NFL team who has a third quarterback on their 53-man roster will include him on their inactive list, but he is designated as a third quarterback and is therefore in uniform in case of injury to the two players ahead of him on the depth chart. But if one of the players is deemed healthy enough to return, the third quarterback goes back to their role on the sideline.

Here are the six players inactive for the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Week 11 matchup against the Browns according to Steelers.com.

Steelers Inactives

No. 2 QB Mason Rudolph (3rd QB)
No. 21 CB Darius Rush
No. 39 S Minkah Fitzpatrick
No. 48 RB Godwin Igwebuike
No. 57 DT Montravius Adams
No. 60 T Dylan Cook

After being activated from the Reserve/Injured List (IR) on Saturday, Pat Freiermuth is active despite his questionable status. This is not a surprise because if the Steelers were not expecting Freiermuth to be available they would not have activated him.

Mason Rudolph is on the list now for the tenth time as the Steelers third quarterback and will be in uniform which is technically an upgrade from last season. Joining Rudolph as a regular on the inactive list is tackle Dylan Cook who was a healthy scratch for all but two games this season when the Steelers were dealing with injuries along the offensive line.

Seeing Minkah Fitzpatrick on the inactive list is as expected because he was ruled out on Friday for the third-straight week with his hamstring injury. Another player ruled out Friday was defensive tackle Antravius Adams who left the game early in Week 9 with an ankle injury. Although Keanu Neal was ruled out on Friday, he is not on the list because he was placed on IR on Saturday.

The last two players on the inactive list for the Steelers in Week 11 are running back Godwin Igwebuike and cornerback Darius Rush for the second-straight week. Both players were active for the Steelers the prior two weeks. Igwebuike lost his spot with the return of Anthony McFarland from the IR while Rush is inactive in favor of having four tight ends available.

As for the Browns inactive list, it can be seen below.

Browns Inactives

No. 1 FS Juan Thornhill
No. 3 WR Marquise Goodwin
No. 56 DE Luke Wypler
No. 57 DE Isaiah McGuire
No. 62 DT Siaki Ika
