Mike Tomlin says Mason Rudolph will start Week 17, but doesn’t rule out Kenny Pickett

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17, and the big question on all Steelers fans minds was who will be starting at quarterback. Following Mason Rudolph’s big game Saturday over the Cincinnati Bengals has fans wanting to see more of Rudolph, but the ankle which was ailing Kenny Pickett was close to healing to the point where he could return to the lineup.

Tuesday, Mike Tomlin met with media as he talked about the upcoming game, and he said Mason Rudolph would get the nod at quarterback, but also didn’t rule out Pickett being able to play. Pickett will continue to work his way back, and the coaching/training staff will keep tabs on the mobility of the second year quarterback.

This per Brooke Pryor of ESPN:

Outside of the quarterback discussion, Tomlin also talked about the injury status of the team. Inside linebacker continues to be a position which has been hit hardest with the injury bug. Elandon Roberts, the lone remaining inside linebacker of the original trio, will be out this week after suffering a pectoral injury on Saturday. Other than Roberts, Tomlin said Trenton Thompson (stinger/neck) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee) would be limited in their return to practice.

The Steelers got some help in Week 16, and their playoff hopes remain strong, but the best way for them to even being in the discussion for a postseason berth is for them to win their final two games. The game vs. the Seahawks in Seattle in Week 17 absolutely will be critical for both 8-7 teams as they hope to make a strong push for the playoffs.
