Day 2 and 3 quarterbacks the Steelers could target in the 2024 NFL Draft

The NFL offseason is officially upon us, and there are fan bases around the league which are now diving head-first into prep for the offseason. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, there is a glaring need at quarterback, but the fact remains it is unlikely the Steelers take a quarterback with their top pick, 20th overall.

So, if you’re like me, you don’t know a lot of these college prospects yet, so it is worth learning some names of quarterbacks who might be considered Day 2 or 3 picks. Remember, Day 2 of the NFL Draft has Rounds 2-3, with Day 3 being Round 4-7. So, let’s start with a quarterback who could be a Day 2 pick.

To get these draft pick ranges, I am leaning on ESPN Senior Writer Jeff Legwold for his analysis on the quarterback class. You won’t see analysis on Drake Maye or Caleb Williams, they are all going to be Round 1 draft picks. But there are plenty of other names which could be on the Steelers radar later on in the draft.

For Day 2 quarterbacks, there was only one which fit the bill…

Michael Penix Jr., Washington

Most likely draft range: Early Day 2

Let’s be honest, the odds of the Steelers taking a quarterback on Days 1 or 2 are unlikely, at best. There are just too many other needs on the roster for them to take a quarterback, in my opinion. So, who are some names who could be targeted on Day 3 of the NFL Draft? Let’s take a look at some names, and where they are expected to be drafted…

J.J. McCarthy, Michigan

Most likely draft range: Round 3

Spencer Rattler, South Carolina

Most likely draft range: Bottom of Round 4

Michael Pratt, Tulane

Most likely draft range: Bottom third of Round 5, top of Round 6

Joe Milton III, Tennessee

Most likely draft range: Round 7

Sam Hartman, Notre Dame

Most likely draft range: Round 7
