AFC North Recap: Week 1 was forgettable for most of the division

Week 1 in the NFL is officially over for the four teams who call the AFC North division home, and what week it was for these teams. It is time for another AFC North Recap, going over all that went right, and wrong, within the division heading into Week 2.

Let’s get to the recap…

Baltimore Ravens – 25
Houston Texans – 9

The Ravens may have won an ugly game, but they are now dealing with some serious injuries heading into Week 2. J.K. Dobbins was lost for the year with a ruptured Achilles tendon, Ronnie Stanley could miss some time, and the team played without Mark Andrews and Marlon Humphrey in Week 1. Winning ugly is still a thing, and that’s exactly what the Ravens did on Sunday against a pretty bad Texans team. I guess a win is a win.

Cleveland Browns – 24
Cincinnati Bengals – 3

This might have been the most lop-sided game of the week, or maybe I should say it was the most shocking one-sided game of the week. The Bengals never stood a chance in this game, and they have to be wondering what exactly their plan is to protect Joe Burrow moving forward. Meanwhile, the Browns are flying high after their big win, and they are hoping to keep their winning ways going with a trip to Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football in Week 2.

San Francisco 49ers – 30
Pittsburgh Steelers – 7

From the decision to take the football to start the game, this game seemed to be over. The Steelers didn’t even muster a first down until their 95-yard touchdown drive to end the first half. Outside of that, it was pure domination all around. Games like this can happen, and the 49ers are a really good team, but if another poor performance comes in Week 2 you can expect the boos to get louder, and the torches and pitchforks to head towards the team facility looking for heads to roll. Let’s hope this was a one-off, and not the start of a trend.

AFC North Standings

Cleveland Browns — 1-0
Baltimore Ravens — 1-0
Cincinnati Bengals — 0-1
Pittsburgh Steelers — 0-1

Week 2 AFC North Schedule

  • Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals — Sunday, 1pm EST
