Around the Big 12 – Week 2

Well folks, no one said college football fandom was for the faint of heart. The headlines from the weekend were copious in amounts, and a few Big 12 teams had very embarrassing performances. I’ll touch on the previous week as well as what is on the schedule for this coming week/weekend.

Kansas- The Jayhawks beat Missouri State 48-17 on Friday, and take on Illinois at home this Friday at 6:30 on ESPN 2. Still don’t know what to think of the team but their jerseys this week are well…..interesting. Give em a look if you haven’t already.

Baylor- Well the worst case scenario has happened in Waco after opening the season with an 11 point loss at home to Texas State. The schedule doesn’t get easier as Utah comes to the toilet seat (McLane) this week to take on the Bears. Could easily be an 0-2 start for Baylor after Utah dismantled Florida last Thursday and looked good doing it. 9/9 11:00 a.m. ESPN.

Kansas State- The ‘cats took care of business 45-0 against SE Missouri. next on deck is Troy…I don’t think we’ll see a true test for this squad until the end of this month or maybe even early October. In the meantime get Will Howard some reps and make sure he’s ready for the Big 12 gauntlet. 9/9 11:00 a.m. FS1

BYU- The Cougars escaped? a somewhat decent Sam Houston squad by a score of 14-0 on Saturday. Not very impressive, but at least the W was secured in Provo. This week they take on Southern Utah. Should be an easy dub at home. 9/9 2:00 p.m. ESPN+

Iowa State- Perhaps one of the bigger surprises of the weekend was Iowa State taking care of UNI at home. However, Cy-Hawk is a whole different level of hate and I just can’t see the Cyclones beating Iowa, even though its in Ames. 9/9 2:30 p.m. FOX

Oklahoma- The Sooners absolutely pumped Arkansas State (as they should) by a score of 73-0. They host SMU this weekend, and the Sooners don’t have a real test until the Red River Shootout in October. OU should pump SMU as well. 9/9 5:00 p.m. ESPN+

West Virginia- After a big loss in Happy Valley last weekend, WVU should easily get that first win of the year at home against Duquesne. They didn’t necessarily look bad at all, they just ran into the buzzsaw of Penn State. 9/9 5:00 p.m. ESPN+

Cincinnati- The Bearcats took care of Eastern Kentucky 66-13 last weekend. However, the easy sledding is done as they head to Pitt for what should be a good game. 9/9 5:30 p.m. CW

Texas- UT took care of a terrible Rice team at home even though it took them a little bit to get going. Ewers didn’t look particularly great, and the test this week is a big step up. Going to be a great one in Tuscaloosa against Bama. 9/9 6:00 p.m. ESPN

Texas Tech- The Red Raiders talked a big game all offseason, and many had them as a dark horse to win the Big 12 championship. They came out hot early before going ice cold and eventually losing to Wyoming. Embarrassing. The road doesn’t get any easier for Tech as they host Oregon in a highly touted matchup. 9/9 6:00 p.m. FOX

UCF- The Knights quietly took care of business on Thursday against Kent State. They head to the blue turf of Boise this weekend to take on the Broncos in a pretty good game going under the radar. 9/9 6:00 p.m. FS1

Houston- The Cougars took out UTSA at home in some pretty slick unis. This week they take on a weak Rice team. 9/9 6:00 p.m. NFL Net.

TCU- In perhaps the best game of the week TCU came up short against Colorado. This week the Horned Frogs take on Nicholls at home and I think they take out some much needed frustration. 9/9 7:00 p.m. ESPN+

Oklahoma State- The Pokes pulled away late against Central Arkansas winning 27-13. This week they head to Tempe to take on future conference mate Arizona State. 9/9 9:30 p.m.
