Updating Steelers offensive tackle depth chart after Day 1 of the NFL Draft

There were a lot of questions as to how the Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 draft would play out in the first round. Would they move up to grab a player they wanted? Would they trade back rather than settle for what they needed most with whowas remaining? Instead, the Steelers held pat at 20 and selected Troy Fautanu, a player they did not expect to be available at that position and would not consider trading back.

Now that the selection has been made, it’s time to check out the Steelers depth chart at the position.

After drafting Troy Fautanu on Day 1 of the 2024 NFL draft, the Steelers currently have eight offensive tackles on the roster. The current projected depth chart at tackle for the Steelers is as follows:

Offensive Tackle

  • Broderick Jones
  • Dan Moore Jr.
  • Troy Fautanu
  • Dylan Cook
  • Kellen Diesch
  • Devery Hamilton
  • Tyler Beach
  • Anderson Hardy

As is typically the case, just like the 2023 draft, the player the Steelers selected in the first round of the draft falls just behind the returning starters from the previous season. With Broderick Jones, the Steelers 2023 first-round draft pick, now lead the way at the top of the depth chart, the biggest question on the mind of Steelers fans is how long will it take for Fautanu to grab a starting position?

Regardless, the Steelers appear to have their top three tackles established at this time. Additionally, Dylan Cook comes in at the same spot on the depth chart where he was for the 2023 season. Cook spent the year on the Steelers 53-man roster for the entire 2023 season, but he only dressed in two games when others were out due to injury. Otherwise, Cook was on the inactive list on a weekly basis.

As for the other four names on the Steelers offensive tackle depth chart, they are players who are likely seeking the opportunity to land on the Steelers practice. Of the four players, Kellen Deitch has the inside track as he spent the entire year on the practice squad with the Steelers in 2023.

Even though the Steelers have eight players on the depth chart which gives them the necessary bodies for training camp, there is little doubt as to the top three positions compared to the rest of those on the list.

While this is likely the Steelers depth chart at this time, there are plenty of things that could change between now and the start of the 2024 regular season. Does this depth chart look accurate as of today? How soon do you project Fautanu breaking into the starting lineup? Make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
