3 Moves the Steelers Should Still Make before the Draft

The Steelers’ roster looks a lot different as April comes around than they did just a three months ago after yet another disappointing 1st Round playoff exit. To say Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan have been busy would be an understatement, with the team boasting an all-new QB room as well as an overhauled WR group and secondary.

Steelers Free Agency Additions So Far (via Spotrac.com)

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a month away, the Steelers still have several moves they could make to improve the roster before the First Round gets underway. Here are 3 that make a ton of sense for the Black and Gold…

SIGN FREE AGENT C BRIAN ALLEN TO A 1-YEAR DEAL

Allen is still a Free Agent after the Rams let him go before the start of the new league year, and the Steelers should absolutely send him an offer sheet to add him to the roster. The Center position is the most glaring hole on the entire roster for Pittsburgh, and Allen fits as an experienced, mid-level starting Center who could be trusted to hold the pivot down until a Rookie pick would be ready to take over. Allen should come cheap at this point of the offseason. It’s a no-brainer add in my opinion.

SIGN FREE AGENT CB ADOREE JACKSON TO A 1-YEAR DEAL

Jackson has primarily played outside in his career, but also has experience in the slot. His versatility would be a big boost to the Steelers secondary, allowing guys like Corey Trice and Darius Rush to continue to develop without being forced into direct backup/rotational roles before they’re ready. Adding Jackson would give you flexibility in the draft without reaching for a nickel CB too early.

BRING BACK BUD DUPREE ON A 1-YEAR DEAL

Markus Golden was very good for Pittsburgh as a rotational pass rusher to give TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith much-needed breaks without a big dip in production. He’s 33 years old though heading into 2024, and Bud Dupree is younger and better against the run, while still possessing the ability to pressure QBs off the edge. The Steelers quietly need a 4th OLB in a big way if they want to retain the competitive advantage they had in 2023 with such a deep rotation off the edge. Give me Dupree on a hometown discount contract, and I’m feeling good about that group!
