Steelers shuffle practice squad heading into the bye week

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a big Week 5 win over the Baltimore Ravens, and it is now the team can sit back and relax as they head into their Week bye week. But just because the team isn’t playing doesn’t mean they aren’t making roster moves.

Monday afternoon the team announced they released two players from the practice squad, and signed one. Here is the post from the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

While the team swapped running backs, the news of Brad Wing being released, this after punting the past two games, likely points to Pressley Harvin’s hamstring being healed to the point where he can return to the team in Week 7.

If you are wondering if there is another move upcoming, there likely is. It was reported earlier on Monday the team is also signing linebacker Kyron Johnson, a 6th Round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles last season, to their practice squad.

This per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network:

The Steelers have time to make roster moves with no game this weekend, but the biggest moves which could be made are them getting some of the players who are currently on Injured Reserve (IR) back on the active roster.

The three players who are now eligible to return, if healthy, are:

  • DT Cam Heyward (groin)
  • WR Diontae Johnson (hamstring)
  • RB Anthony McFarland Jr. (knee)

Will these players return? If so, the Steelers don’t have to make that announcement/roster move any time soon. In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the much-needed bye week.
