Steelers make roster cuts ahead of NFL deadline Tuesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers have wrapped up their 2023 regular season, a day or two ahead of the rest of the league with their Week 3 game vs. the Atlanta Falcons concluded on Thursday night. With the preseason over, they have started to trim their roster ahead of the NFL deadline which is set for Tuesday at 4pm EST.

Saturday the Steelers released 8 players from their roster, most notably

This per the Steelers official Twitter feed:

The list of the eight players released are:

  • WR  Dan Chisena
  • DB Nevelle Clarke
  • LB Kuony Deng
  • CB Madre Harper
  • DL James Nyamwaya
  • PK B.T. Potter
  • LB Forrest Rhyne
  • LS Rex Sunahara

The Steelers cutting players ahead of the deadline gives these players an opportunity to potentially sign with another NFL team and make the roster, but also helps the team prepare for the truly difficult cuts which still await the team.

These eight players cut now moves the Steelers’ roster to 82 players. There is plenty of work left to be done in terms of trimming the roster.
