Steelers make multiple roster moves; place Cam Heyward on IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a number of roster moves on Wednesday in preparation for the Week 2 match up against the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. Some moves were expected. Here is a brief rundown:

  • Announced the move of placing Cam Heyward on the Reserve/Injured list (IR).
  • Promoted wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick from the practice squad.
  • Signed two players back to the practice squad.
  • Released a practice squad player.
  • Placed a player on the practice squad/injured list.

This per the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

The placement of Heyward on IR was expected, as he just had surgery on his groin, and he is expected to miss the next eight weeks while recovering from surgery.

Taking Heyward’s spot on the 53-man roster is wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick, a promotion from the Steelers practice squad. With Diontae Johnson ruled out for this week, but not necessarily needing to go to IR at this time, having an extra receiver promoted, in this case Fitzpatrick, is not a surprise.

The shuffling of the practice squad is something which is likely to continue with the team bringing back both Luq Barcoo and Greg Bell. The team also placed safety Josiah Scott on the Practice Squad/Injured List and released cornerback Anthony Brown.

The Steelers continue to prepare for the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football in Week 2, so be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the team as they hope to even their record at 1-1.
