Steelers get good news on Minkah Fitzpatrick heading into Week 3

The Pittsburgh Steelers were able to escape Acrisure Stadium Monday night with a 26-22 win over the Cleveland Browns in prime time, but the celebration has to be short-lived. Just hours after the game ended in Pittsburgh, the Steelers now have to prepare for their first road trip of the 2023 regular season as they prep to travel to the desert to play the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday Night Football.

In preparation for the game, Mike Tomlin met with media Tuesday to field questions as his 1-1 team attempts to start their first winning streak of this young season.

While there were plenty of questions surrounding the Steelers struggling offense, injuries which were sustained by the team throughout the game were a large talking point during Tomlin’s weekly press conference.

The largest name who was injured in the prime time game was Minkah Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick injured his chest in the second half of the game and was eventually ruled out of the game. It was after the game when Tomlin said in his post-game press conference how Fitzpatrick had been take to a local hospital for evaluation. Tomlin added Tuesday the trip was done as a precaution, and the team feels good about where he is the day after. However, Tomlin did add he will see where the week leads the team and Fitzpatrick’s availability this week.

Linebacker Elandon Roberts left the game Monday with a stinger, and Tomlin reiterated how he was able to return to the game, but the team will keep an eye on Roberts in the early stages of the week and let his participation in practice dictate if he’ll be available this week.

The only other injury noted by Tomlin in the Tuesday press conference was the concussion sustained by Gunner Olszewski. Tomlin stated the obvious, announcing Gunner being in the concussion protocol and how the team didn’t have much information on that considering the short week.

While the fist official injury report will be released Wednesday, it is important to note on a short week there might be some players who show on the report who might not have been listed by Tomlin on Tuesday. It is still early in the process and sometimes they are just learning about these “bumps and bruises” type injuries on a short week as players report for work Tuesday.

The Steelers are now working on one less day of work as they get ready for the Raiders. To make sure you, the fan, is ready for the game, be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for Week 3.
