Several Steelers take new jersey numbers for the regular season

The Pittsburgh Steelers have solidified their 53-man roster, but that doesn’t mean things still won’t change heading into Week 1 this Sunday when the San Francisco 49ers come to Acrisure Stadium.

One aspect of the team which is always changing leading up to the regular season are jersey numbers. Whether it’s a player who came to the team after the start of training camp, or someone who just wants a different number, players have that choice.

For many veterans, if they don’t want to pay a younger player for the number, they’ll wait until the roster is trimmed from 90 players to 53 when a number they like/want then become vacated. This was the case for several players on the 2023 roster.

Here are the new numbers:

In case you can’t see the above image, they are as follows:

  • Desmond King: No. 25
  • Markus Golden: No. 44
  • Kwon Alexander: No. 54

The only real surprise on this list is Kwon Alexander. Alexander has worn single-digit numbers in previous stops in his NFL career, but he wore No. 26 during training camp and the preseason. However, that is also the number of running back Anthony McFarland Jr. It was assumed McFarland would give the number to Alexander, but it appears that wasn’t the case.

Other than that, the jersey numbers have remained the same, so if you bought yourself a Darnell Washington, Joey Porter Jr. or Keeanu Benton jersey, you are good-to-go for the upcoming season.
