Pittsburgh Steelers trade Kevin Dotson to Los Angeles Rams

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a significant move in regards to their 2023 53-man roster as they have traded guard Kevin Dotson to the Los Angeles Rams. This trade, now confirm by multiple sources, was first broken by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Kevin Dotson was a fourth-round draft pick of the Steelers in the 2020 NFL draft. Starting only four of the 13 games in which he appeared in 2020, Dotson started all nine contests where he saw action in 2021. In 2022, Dotson was the Steelers starting left guard and played every offensive snap for the season.

When the Steelers added Isaac Seumalo this past offseason, the writing was on the wall for Dotson that his starting position was likely in danger. Dotson appeared in two preseason games for the Steelers where he played 45 snaps but missed their final contests due to a shoulder injury.

According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, the compensation for the Steelers is a swap of draft picks where the Steelers move up one round in each of the next two drafts. The Steelers will gain a fourth-round pick in exchange for fifth-round pick in 2024 and will receive a fifth-round pick in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2025.

With the trade of Dotson, the Steelers offensive line depth chart comes a little bit more in focus. Seventh-round draft pick Spencer Anderson, a player who saw snaps at four of the five offensive line positions throughout the preseason, is likely to cement a spot on the 53-man roster. Additionally, former starting center Kendrick Green has a much easier path to remain on the Steelers roster as well.

Stay tuned to Steel Curtain Network’s continued coverage of the Pittsburgh Steelers as they cut their roster down to 53 players and prepare for the upcoming 2023 NFL season.
