Only two players limited in Steelers first injury report on Wednesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially started 2023 NFL season following an off day on Tuesday. As the Steelers took the practice field for their first official day of preparation for the San Francisco 49ers, there were no players who did not participate while two were limited. In the first injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR Department, only two names appear on the list.

Pittsburgh Steelers Participation/Injury Report, Week 1

Wednesday, September 6
DT Cameron Heyward (NIR) – Limited
DT Larry Ogunjobi (Foot) – Limited

After missing all of the preseason, defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi was able to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday with a foot injury. When asked about Ogunjobi during his press conference on Tuesday, Mike Tomlin was not prepared to say they would follow the same routine with Ogunjobi that they used in 2022. Often missing the first day of practice each week, Ogunjobi being a limited participant is more on the encouraging side of things rather than concerning.

As what happened many times last season, Cam Hayward lands on the injury report due to getting time off for rest as a coach’s decision. But instead of getting the entire practice off, Heyward was listed as a limited participant with no injury designation making his status for Sunday not something to be in doubt.

As for the 49ers injury report, came later in the day due to being a West Coast team but is now available here courtesy of Steelers.com.

As is often the case when it comes to the injury report, it is the progression throughout the week that will give an indication to a player’s availability. For this reason, make sure you are checking back at Steel Curtain Network for Thursday’s and Friday’s injury report as well as continued coverage as the Steelers prepare for Sunday’s game against the 49ers.
