8 Steelers land on the first injury report for Week 3

The Pittsburgh Steelers exited Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season both better in the win column and in the long-term injury department. Losing three players to the Reserve/Injured List last week, the Steelers don’t have anyone who has already been ruled out for Sunday Night’s game in Las Vegas.

With the Steelers having a short turnaround after playing on Monday night, it was expected that some players would be limited early in the week. In the first injury report this week courtesy of Steelers.com, there are eight names that appear on the list, all of which did not practice.

Pittsburgh Steelers Participation/Injury Report, Week 3

Wednesday, September 20
No. 20 CB Patrick Peterson (NIR) – DNP
No. 23 S Damontae Kazee (Calf) – DNP
No. 39 S Minkah Fitzpatrick (Chest) – DNP
No. 44 LB Markus Golden (Knee) – DNP
No. 73 OL Isaac Seumalo (NIR) – DNP
No. 80 TE Darnell Washington (Knee) – DNP
No. 89 WR Gunner Olszewski (Concussion) – DNP
No. 99 DT Larry Ogunjobi (Foot) – DNP

There were two players who did not practice on Wednesday that we’re not injured but were simply the coach’s decision to give them a veteran’s day off. Guard Isaac Seumalo and cornerback Patrick Peterson both were out on Wednesday but are not an injury concern moving forward.

Minkah Fitzpatrick left the Steelers game Monday night and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons with his chest injury. Although there was good reports from there not being a prolonged issue with a Fitzpatrick, he did not practice on Wednesday.

Another player who did not finish the game on Monday night was wide receiver Gunner Olszewski with a concussion. Being in the NFL’s protocol, Olszewski did not practice on Wednesday which makes his likelihood to play in Week 3 much lower as it will be difficult to move through the protocol.

On the injury report every day of the young regular season, Larry Ogunjobi is once again listed with his foot injury. Not practicing on Wednesday, the rest of the week will determine if Ogunjobi is able to play on Sunday much like he has been each week this season.

Three players who were not previously mentioned as being injured who did not practice on Wednesday were safety Damontae Kazee, outside linebacker Markus Golden, and rookie tight end Darnell Washington. With not much known about these injuries, the next two practices will truly tell the story as to their availability on Sunday night.

A surprising omission from the injury report is linebacker Elandon Roberts whom left Monday’s game with a stinger but was able to return. Even mentioned by Coach Tomlin during his press conference, Roberts must be progressed to a level where the injury is not expected to affect him for Week 3.

As for the Raiders injury report, it can be seen here courtesy of Steelers.com.
