6 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Tuesday’s training camp practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field at St. Vincent College in a padded practice after their day off on Monday. After practice, head coach Mike Tomlin briefly addressed the media. With a better volume of questions asked by those in attendance, I was able to once again bring a players mentioned article. Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period.

Broderick Jones & Nick Herbig

At Steelers practice on Tuesday, one matchup which saw multiple reps was drafted rookies Broderick Jones and Nick Herbig going up against each other. Coach Tomlin has asked what he is seeing in the competition between the two and what he thinks that is doing for each of them to have that matchup.

“I think we’re all a big winner. When you get two young guys that have some talent, and they’re competing against each other regardless of who wins the reps, we win. Because it’s an iron-on-Iron principle. It’s fun to watch them do it. Both got tremendous upside and so they’re good dance partners.”

Armon Watts

One of the new players on the Steelers defensive line yet with plenty of NFL experience his Armon Watta. Coach Tomlin was asked what he has seen during Watt’s elevated reps being new to the team this year.

“He’s an NFL player. You can tell he’s been in an NFL environment. He’s available consistently every day. He’ll be given an opportunity to state a case for himself for sure.”

Spencer Anderson

After playing several different positions across the offensive line on Friday night, seventh-round draft pick Spencer Anderson got some reps at center on Tuesday. Coach Tomlin was asked what he seen so far from Anderson and what about him made him think center was a possibility.

“He did all those things in college, and so you know, if you show versatility, it helps his cause and ours, and he appears to be a young guy at least intellectually that’s capable of handling it. The more we give him reps will be revealed whether he’s physically capable of handling, so far so good.”

Marcus Golden

Even after the day off on Monday, some players were giving a day of rest on Tuesday. Coach Tomlin was asked if Marcus Golden was given a vets day off.

“Took care of him.”

Larry Ogunjobi

One player who is once again becoming an injury concern is Larry Ogunjobi who missed Friday night’s game and was seen at practice in a walking boot. Coach Tomlin was asked about Ogunjobi’s status.

“Moving closer.”
