Phenomenal Fake-Out: AJ Styles Attacks Cody Rhodes on Smackdown

AJ Styles dusted off Mark Henry’s old “fake retirement” trick last night on Smackdown to get another shot at WWE champion Cody Rhodes.

After Styles’ loss to Rhodes at Backlash France, Styles started acting like he was ready to wrap up his career. He brought his Bullet Club pals Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson to the ring to make the announcement.

They also welcomed Rhodes to the ring before Styles attacked the champion. This was similar to Mark Henry’s famous attack on John Cena in 2013 while wearing a salmon-colored suit.

This means Styles may get another crack at Rhodes’ title on June 15 in Scotland at Clash at the Castle.

Nia Jax had her Queen of the Ring coronation ceremony, as she will challenge for the WWE women’s title at SummerSlam.

Bayley, the current champion, lost a tag team match with Naomi against Piper Niven & Chelsea Green. Piper Niven, who is from Scotland, may get a title shot at the pay-per-view.

Tomasso Ciampa defeated Austin Theory, who was distracted by partner Grayson Waller taking credit for winning the WWE tag team title. Johnny Gargano will face Waller next week on Smackdown, so #DIY should challenge for the belts at Clash at the Castle.

Andrade defeated Apollo Crews with a DDT before kicking off a feud with Santos Escobar’s crew, Legado del Fantasma.

Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa are now part of The Bloodline after a successful run in New Japan as Guerillas of Destiny. They defeated The Street Profits on Smackdown.

We are all waiting for Roman Reigns to return and address Solo Sikoa’s takeover of The Bloodline.
