Welcome to the Daily Fantasy Preview. This weekly article will dive into all the best values and bets for the upcoming week of NFL action. If you’re a competitive DFS player or want a leg up on the weekend’s betting action, this is the place for you! Let’s dive into the Week 5 slate.

Note: All fantasy statistics mentioned in this article are based on Draft Kings salaries and player and team rankings. The value options mentioned should be viable on most DFS platforms and sportsbooks.

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL “ONE NIGHT STAND”

Draft Kings’ NFL Showdown Captain Mode contest for TNF. Entry $15. $500K to 1st. CHI vs WAS.

MUST PLAYS

JUSTIN FIELDS | QB | Captain Slot (+1.5 pts) | $16,500
Fields has struggled throughout the young season but went off last week against a moribund Denver defense giving up loads of fantasy points to opposing offenses. Now he faces maybe a unit in Washington that is even worse against opposing QBs, giving up the 7th most points to the position. Play Fields with confidence in the “Captain slot” to take advantage of that extra boost.

BRIAN ROBINSON | RB | Flex | $9,200
Robinson has 3 TDs in 4 games for Washington, and is the clear RB1 in the offense. Look for him to get his number called early and often against Chicago, who is giving up the 3rd most fantasy points to RBs so far this season. He might be the best combo of high floor and high ceiling in this matchup.

VALUE PLAY

BEARS D/ST | Flex | $4,000
The Washington Football team is giving up the 2nd most points to opposing defenses in 2023. Other than the great matchup, it’s worth it to use a cheap pick on a play like the Bears D/ST so you can fit Justin Fields big salary under your cap in this contest.

SUNDAY DFS DARLINGS (VALUE PLAYS UNDER $5,500 SALARY)

Draft Kings NFL Classic $3.5M Fantasy Football Millionaire. Entry $20. $1M to 1st. 9-player roster.

QB JOSH DOBBS (AZ) vs. CIN – $5,200
Dobbs is playing like a top 10 Fantasy QB the last 3 weeks, and it’s actually a decent matchup against a reeling Bengals squad that can’t get anything going on either side of the ball. Dobbs has been putting up 20+ fpts against defenses like the Cowboys and 49ers. He’s a fantastic value play against what should be a much less stingy opponent.

QB RYAN TANNEHILL (TEN) vs. IND – $4,900
I don’t love it, but at the price, you could do worse. Tannehill has been unplayable outside of the team’s surprising victory over the Chargers in Week 2. Much like the Chargers, the Colts defense is giving up massive fantasy totals to opposing QBs so far this season. This is a low-cost, high-risk play, but if you want to load up on high priced RBs and WRs, this is a good cap-saving option.

RB BREECE HALL (NYJ) vs. DEN – $5,400
Robert Saleh says Breece is ready to come of his pitch count and get back to his workhorse ways this week. If his workload does in fact increase, he’s continued to show elite explosiveness throughout the early season. This could be the last week to get him at a bargain price like this.

RB GUS EDWARDS (BAL) vs. PIT – $5,000
The Steelers are handing out yards and fantasy points to opposing RBs like candy to kids on Halloween. Edwards does have to contend with the ultimate TD vulture in QB Lamar Jackson, but his workload is sufficient to potentially produce big numbers against the porous Pittsburgh run-defense.

WR SKYY MOORE (KC) vs. MIN – $4,400
Cheap? Check. Good matchup? Check. Elite fantasy producer? Not really, but Moore has been outsnapping his WR counterparts in KC, but has yet to receive a large portion of the targets. The Vikings give up the most fantasy points to opposing WRs in the league, so a breakout performance could be on tap for the talented 2nd-year receiver.

WR TUTU ATWELL (LAR) vs. PHI – $5,300
Watch the Cooper Kupp situation closely, but Atwell has a role in this offense as the team’s deep threat. He’s also shown great rapport with QB Matt Stafford throughout the young season. If Kupp remains out this week, Atwell is a fantastic value play against a surprisingly porous Eagles secondary.

TE TYLER HIGBEE (LAR) vs. PHI – $4,100
The TE position won’t cost you much outside of Travis Kelce and TJ Hockenson, but getting a player of Higbee’s caliber in a good matchup for this price is still a great deal, and could allow you to load up on big-name players at more valuable positions.

TE JONNU SMITH (ATL) vs. HOU – $2,900
With the Falcons unable to muster any sort of downfield passing attack with Desmond Ridder at the helm, Smith has been the main beneficiary of the bevy of underneath passes Ridder likes to take throughout a ball-game. Smith has scored 32.9 fpts in 3 games to Kyle Pitts’ 22.7 through 4 contests. At $2,900 you go with Smith.
