Around the AFC West: Week 2
The Kansas City Chiefs got their first win of the season over the Jacksonville Jaguars 17-9. It was a slow start for Patrick Mahomes and the offense but they got going right before halftime. Travis Kelce had four catches for 26 yards and a touchdown in his first action of the 2023 NFL season. Chris Jones racked up a sack and a half in his return from his holdout. The Chiefs defense held the Jaguars without a touchdown in the game. The Chiefs will take on the Chicago Bears next week.
It was not as happy of a story for the Los Angeles Chargers. They fell to the Tennessee Titans 27-24 in overtime. Justin Herbert had a good game in the loss. He threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon. It was the LA defense that let the team down allowing Ryan Tannehill to go 20 of 24 for 246 yards and two touchdowns – one passing and one rushing. The 0-2 Chargers travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in week three.
Sean Payton started his career with the Denver Broncos 0-2 when his team lost 35-33 at home to the Washington Commanders. Russell Wilson threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns in the loss, but he also turned the ball over twice. The Broncos has a chance to send the game to overtime but could not convert a tow-point conversion after getting a Hail Mary touchdown. Denver’s defense allowed Sam Howell to throw for 299 yards and two touchdowns. The Broncos travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins next week.
The Las Vegas Raiders drew a bit of the short straw having to face Josh Allen after his terrible Monday Night Football performance. Allen threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns in this one. Las Vegas got an early touchdown from Davante Adams, but it was all Bills after that in the 38-10 loss. The Raiders take on the Pittsburgh Steelers next week on Sunday Night Football.
