5 Breakout Players For The 2024-25 NFL Season

Training camp for the 2024-25 NFL season is just a few weeks away and some of the major breakout stars will take the field.

There will be candidates on each team to breakout this season and here are five that can take that next step.

5. Will McDonald IV, New York Jets

It was a bit of a surprise pick when the New York Jets drafted Will McDonald IV in 2023. The defensive front was strong and it didn’t seem like a major need but it could pay out this year. McDonald played in 15 games last season and finished with three sacks and a forced fumble. In 2024, he can take a step into a starting role and improve tremendously.

4. Khalil Shakir, Buffalo Bills

Khalil Shakir will need to step up big time for the Buffalo Bills. He totaled 39 catches for 611 yards and two touchdowns last season as the third option in Buffalo. Now, Stefan Diggs and Gabe Davis have new homes and Josh Allen will need a new top option. Shakir has the makings of a star in Buffalo and could become Allen’ favorite target this season.

3. Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans

Like Shakir, Tyjae Spears can take advantage of a major departure. Derrick Henry is now in Baltimore and Spears is next in line to be the workhorse in Tennessee. As a rookie, Spears impressed with 4.53 yards per carry on an even 100 carries. He added two touchdowns and 52 catches as well. Spear has a multi-faceted skillset and can take his game to the next level here.

2. Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts

Anthony Richardson played in just four games last season before being shut down with an injury. He completed 59.5% of his passes for 577 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Richardson also made an impact with his legs but did not handle the wear and tear early. Gardner Minshew is in Las Vegas and the former top pick of the Colts is ready to return and take over as the franchise quarterback.

1. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seattle Seahawks

Jaxon Smith-Njigba came into the NFL with high expectations and flashed as a rookie behind D.K. Metcalf. He totaled 63 catches for 628 yards and four touchdowns. During his sophomore campaign, there is no danger of a slump. Instead, Smith-Njigba looks ready to take the next step. He is a strong route runner with great agility and athleticism. The Seahawks have their next big-time weapon that can dominate down the field.
