What To Watch For Ahead Of Pivotal Weekend In Big Ten Football
The Big Ten football season is in full swing.
As we approach the month of December, there are many games that will have postseason implications. That is certainly the case heading into Week 13.
Game of the Week
No. 5 Indiana at No. 2 Ohio State
Indiana has been one of the surprise teams of the season thus far. The unbeaten Hoosiers have skyrocketed to No. 5 in the rankings but have not faced the toughest schedule to this point. Now, Indiana will be faced with Ohio State. The Buckeyes are nearly a two-touchdown favorite on their home field this weekend. The Hoosiers have a chance to prove that they are not a fraudulent team heading into the postseason.
Upset Special
No. 4 Penn State at Minnesota
Just how good is Penn State this season? Well, just like any other year, the Nittany Lions lost the one game on their schedule. Penn State is up to No. 4 in the rankings but will hit the road against an improved Minnesota team. The Gophers were one of the hottest teams in the conference before being put out by Rutgers two weeks ago. Now, Minnesota is a big underdog on its home field with Penn State coming to town. On paper, the Nittany Lions should roll here. Never take a home dog for granted.
Statement Spot
No. 25 Illinois at Rutgers
It has been a roller-coaster season for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights began 4-0 before losing the next four games, including a home game to UCLA. Now, Rutgers has won its last two games and is bowl eligible for the second consecutive season. The one thing that Rutgers is missing this season is a statement victory. Illinois has jumped back into the rankings after dominating Michigan State and will now head to Piscataway. This could be the ranked victory that the Scarlet Knights are looking for in what was supposed to be a special season.
Rivalry Renewed In New Conference
USC at UCLA
Both USC and UCLA have done their fair share of traveling since joining the Big Ten. Now, the former PAC-12 foes will not have to go far. The Trojans and Bruins will renew their rivalry in a late-night Big Ten matchup, kicking off at 10:30pm on the East Coast on NBC. It has been a difficult transition for both sides but this matchup at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena will bring a sense of familiarity.
