The Final Injury Report For Vikings-Chargers

As the Minnesota Vikings get set to face the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday at US Bank Stadium, we finally have a little bit of clarity on who will be playing this Sunday. Each team, sitting at 0-2, has had to deal with their share of injuries so far this season. The final injury report is out, and each team had to take the good with the bad.

Vikings injuries

The Vikings had five players on their final injury report. Only outside linebacker Marcus Davenport (ankle) was officially ruled out for Sunday’s game as he is set to miss a third consecutive game. Center Garrett Bradbury (back) was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday after missing practice Wednesday. It will be interesting to see if he is able to return to the starting lineup after missing all but seven snaps so far this season.

Fortunately, the other three Vikings listed on the injury report are good to go on Sunday. Linebacker Jordan Hicks (shin) and safety Josh Metellus (shoulder) were both full participants on Friday after being limited on Wednesday and Thursday. Although Hicks is older and Metellus is younger, both players provide leadership on defense.

Perhaps most impactful of all, though, was left tackle Christian Darrisaw (ankle) being cleared to play after being a full participant on Friday as well. Darrisaw missed last Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles when he reaggravated his injury after the Vikings released their inactive list. He left the field for six plays in the Vikings’ Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he initially injured his ankle, although he came back to finish the game.

Chargers injuries

On the Chargers’ front, they will be without former Vikings standout linebacker Eric Kendricks (hamstring) who will miss his second consecutive game. He will sit alongside star running back Austin Ekeler (ankle), who, too, will be absent for a second straight week.

Star defensive end Joey Bosa (hamstring) is listed as questionable after being limited in practice on Wednesday and Friday. His limited participation Friday was a good sign after he missed Thursday. Although Bosa was dealing with the injury last week, he was still able to make a difference against the Tennessee Titans. He still notched two sacks despite only playing 19 total snaps. Expect a similar approach from the Chargers on Sunday.

Others listed as questionable include linebackers Dalyan Henley (hamstring) and Chris Rumph II (hamstring) and defensive lineman Christopher Hinton (back). The only other Charger listed on the injury report was wide receiver Mike Williams (ankle), but he was a full participant all week and will be good to go on Sunday.

Chargers quotes of the week

Chargers QB Justin Herbert on facing Harrison Smith: “Yeah, he’s very smart…. He’s such a great defensive player…. He poses a lot of threats. He’s one of those players you have to be aware of whenever he’s on the field.”

Chargers head coach Brandon Staley on Vikings: “They’ve had two tough games this year. They had a fantastic season last year. A lot of the key guys that were the engines in that season are there. A lot of experience, a lot of dangerous players, so a lot of respect for them.

Staley on Justin Jefferson: “One of the most complete receivers, I think, to be in the NFL in a long time…. He’s definitely one of the faces of the league.”

Staley on facing friend Kevin O’Connell after spending time together on LA Rams’ staff in 2020: “He’s like a brother to me, but, I mean, we’re going head-to-head on Sunday. Our friendship is going to be a distant second to us winning or losing on Sunday.”
