Updating the Steelers defensive depth chart ahead of 2023 training camp

As the Pittsburgh Steelers had a very intriguing offseason as general manager Omar Khan finished out his first year on the job. Looking specifically at the defensive side of the ball, the Steelers have officially added new players into the mix throughout free agency, the draft, and signing undrafted rookie free agents.

Since the team is filled out and ready to head into training camp, let’s look at the Steelers defensive depth chart by position.

*Due to his ability to play in either position group, as well as having head coach Mike Tomlin noncommittal on the subject, DeMarvin Leal has been placed in both DL and OLB groups

The Steelers have filled out their defensive position groups quite nicely when it comes strictly to the numbers as they have 41 defensive players heading into training camp. Whether or not the players they have at each position is the quality needed for success remains to be seen and up for debate. While these are the players the Steelers are starting with for training camp, the likelihood of these names remaining constant throughout the preseason is very low as players will be on and off the 90-man roster.

So what position group stands out as having more players than necessary? Which ones do you think the Steelers still may have the most concerns? Make sure to give your thoughts in the comments below.
