Steelers fill out 90-man roster with two running backs, releasing one

As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for the first padded practice of their 2023 training camp, roster moves were expected. Not only did the Steelers have roster spots open, but there was also the news of Alfonzo Graham suffering a torn labrum Monday which had fans awaiting a roster move Tuesday.

Those roster moves came Tuesday, but the player who was released wasn’t the player many expected. As stated earlier, the expectation was Graham to find his way on the Reserve/Injured List, but the move was to release Jason Huntley.

This from the Steelers official Twitter account:

It is important to note the move to put Graham on the Reserve/Injured List could still be forthcoming, but as of now the Steelers fill out their running back camp roster with both Greg Bell and John Lovett. Learn more about both players below, courtesy of the Steelers official website:

“Greg Bell originally signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft.

“Bell played two seasons at San Diego State after transferring from Nebraska. While at San Diego State he had 358 carries for 1,728 yards and 15 touchdowns in 21 games. In 2021 he carried the ball 245 times for 1,091 yards and nine touchdowns.”

“John Lovett was originally signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft.

“Lovett played one season at Penn State after transferring from Baylor following the 2020 season. He played in nine games for Penn State in 2021, carrying the ball 52 times for 177 yards and adding nine receptions for 36 yards. While at Baylor he started 20 of 42 games and carried the ball 355 times for 1,803 yards and 17 touchdowns.”
