Kenny Pickett a full participant at practice on Thursday

The Pittsburgh Steelers exited Week 4 of the 2023 NFL with a miserable defeat and a plethora of injuries. There were several starters knocked out of the game and some players have already been ruled out for Sunday.

After having a padded practice on Wednesday, there may be some players who were not able to participate at the same level who can return on Thursday. In the second injury report this week courtesy of Steelers.com, there was one new name that appeared on the list and five players who did not practice.

Kenny Pickett was unable to finish the Steelers game last Sunday due to a knee injury. Fortunately it is only a bone bruise and Pickett was able to practice on Wednesday in a limited fashion and said after practice he plans to play this Sunday. On Thursday Pickett was a full participant and is on track to play this Sunday.

Two players who are not as fortunate as Pickett are offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. with a knee injury and tight end Pat Freiermuth with a hamstring. Moore has already been ruled out for this week and Mike Tomlin said in his press conference on Tuesday that Freiermuth is doubtful to play. As expected, neither player practiced on Wednesday or Thursday.

Defensive tackle DeMarvin Leal is in the NFL’s concussion protocol and did not practice on Wednesday. Thursday saw Leal return in a limited capacity which leaves the possibility of his return for Sunday, but is in no way a guarantee.

Two players who missed the Steelers Week 4 matchup were guard James Daniels with a groin injury and punter Pressley Harvin III who is dealing with a hamstring. On Wednesday, neither player was able to return to practice. Hoping things would progress this week, it was more of the same on Thursday as neither player was able to practice.

A player who was not expected to be on the report is linebacker Cole Holcomb who was limited on Wednesday with a back injury. Additionally, Chuks Okorafor did not practice Wednesday with an elbow issue, something that limited his practice participation last week as well. On Thursday, both players returned as full participants.

A new name to the injury report on Thursday was Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith with a groin injury. The fact Highsmith was unable to practice in any capacity ios concerning, and Friday’s practice will be the big indicator for his availability for Sunday.

Two players who did not practice for the Steelers on Wednesday but it was not injury related as they were given the day off. Guard Isaac Seumalo and cornerback Patrick Peterson did not practice on Wednesday but returned to practice on Thursday.
