30 Scenarios in 30 Days: Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren will both top 1k yards again

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the 2024 regular season, but before the real games begin, the team has to head to training camp back at Saint Vincent College in order to fine tune their skills. As we here at SCN prepare you for the start of camp, we give you a series called “30 Scenarios in 30 Days” which gives you a Steelers scenario every day leading up to the start of camp.

It is simple how it works. We provide you the scenario, reasons why it will or won’t happen, and then our prediction for what we think will take place.

Let’s get to the scenario…

Scenario: Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren will both top 1k yards again

Why it will happen: The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team with an old school persona on the offensive side of the football. With the rest of the league going into a pass-happy mode, the Steelers are sticking to their ground game “guns”. Last season the Steelers didn’t just run the ball, but utilized their backs in a variety of ways. Well, two in particular. Najee Harris was the ground-and-pound back, while Jaylen Warren was the versatile do-it-all style back.

No matter how you describe the two backs, they both allotted for over 1,000 total yards from scrimmage last season. here is the breakdown:

Najee Harris:

Rushing: 1,034 / Receiving: 170 / Total: 1,204

Jaylen Warren:

Rushing: 784 / Receiving: 370 / Total: 1,154

When I look at these numbers, it become increasingly clear the team will likely duplicate this feat in 2024. Why? No, it doesn’t have to do with Arthur Smith’s running game, but more with how the team can use both of these backs as more of a dual threat weapon. Najee Harris has proven he is capable of catching the ball out of the backfield, and Jaylen Warren has shown an ability to run the ball both in between the tackles as well as outside the tackles.

If the Steelers do open up these backs to multiple ways or impacting the offense, both Harris and Warren might have different numbers and percentages, but totally 1,000 yards, assuming both stay healthy, doesn’t seem like a challenge in 2024.

Why it won’t happen: In my opinion, the only thing which would stop this prediction from coming true is if these players don’t remain healthy. An injury to one, or both, of the aforementioned running backs would clearly put a damper on what could be a tremendous amount of production from the running backs.

Prediction: As stated above, if these two players stay healthy, it is difficult for me to fathom them not reaching 1,000 total yards a piece. It might look different, but to me this seems like a no-brainer.
