Nuggets Get 40th Win In First Half of Back-to-Back vs. Kings

The Denver Nuggets played their first game of a back to back against the Sacramento Kings at The Ball Arena in Denver. The Nuggets have been on fire recently as they were going into this game with a record of 39-19, and with the win they would encompass 40 wins making them the 4th team in the NBA to reach that mark. Going into the game The Nuggets were on a current 3 game winning streak and by winning they had the chance to extend it to 4 games making them have won their last 7 of 10 games. Overall, the game had the potential of being an underratedly hype matchup as these teams could possibly meet up in a future playoff match. Also the Nuggets were coming into the game with the notion of trying to get revenge against the Kings as they loss the last 2 meetings against them. As Sacramento won 135-106 at home and won 102-98 in Denver so this was not just a regular Wednesday night game for the Nuggets as the stakes for this game were high. With a loss the Nuggets would be pushed to 2.5 games behind The Thunder, so this was must important win game for Denver. However, despite all the hype it was short lived as just hours before the game started it was announced that the Starting Point Guard for the Kings De’Aaron Fox would be not playing in the game as he would be sitting out with a knee Injury. This was definitely a big let-down for the fans and the Kings as they were already the underdogs in the match-up with Fox but without him there chances of winning was almost impossible. But, not entirely impossible as the Kings started the first quarter scoring 35 points in comparison to the Nuggets 28. However, this was  all she wrote for Sacramento as they were obliterated in the second quarter as the Nuggets had 37 points scored by the  in comparison to The Kings 20. The Halftime score ended up being 65-55 Nuggets and it just got worse from there for the Kings. As in the 3rd quarter The Nuggets scored 35 points in comparison to only 17 scored by the Kings. In the 4th quarter the lead was so insurmountable that the Nuggets played there bench and still ended up scoring 17.

The final score of the game ended up being 117-96, which is just the Nuggets 4th time this season where they held a team to under 100 points. In this game the only real threats from the Kings were Keegan Murray and Chris Duarte as Keegan had 21 and Duarte had 18. This just showcases another all around good performance for The Nuggets defence. However despite the Nuggets great defensive outing being a big reason why they won this game it was also due to the fact of Jamal Murray. Canada’s finest had 34 points, 5 assists as he shot 13 of 15 from the field and was 5 of 6 from 3 in his 33 minutes of basketball. Jamal was the only player in The Nuggets roster who had more than 16 points and actually the only player in this game to have more than 21. As it was just a night where it felt like everything was falling in for him and that he had something to prove. However, disregarding the low scoring by the other Nuggets players there is almost one certainty when watching a Nuggets game and that is a Jokic triple double. Despite only having 14 points, the Joker had 15 rebounds, and 11 assists for his 4th straight game with a triple double. Overall, the team gave their full 100 percent as they had to come back from that deficit in the first quarter. When asked about the deficit in The Post Game Interview Head Coach Michael Malone said “Ya we were definitely a late arriving team tonight, they jumped us a little bit but after quarter number 1 I thought our defence was outstanding. We held them to 61 points in quarters 2,3,4. We made them shoot 37 percent from the field and most importantly they made 7 threes in the1st quarter 5 in the rest of the game. I just felt our energy levels, our defence, our commitment, our communication they picked up and that allowed us to get that run. We had 26 fast break points, we forced them into 14 turnovers for 28 points and that was really great to see us flip the switch”. These remarks by Malone show his belief in the team and also show some stats in the game which helped the Nuggets come back from that rough first quarter, and end up with that huge win in the end. The Nuggets look to keep up the momentum and win there 5th straight as they play their second half of the back to back in a late 10:00 game tonight at the Ball Arena in Denver. They play against the Miami Heat who are 8-2 in their last 10 games, and are also on a little winning streak of they’re own as they have won there last 5 games. Either way the game is looking to have a lot of hype as one teams winning streak will end and the other will continue to dominate.
