A Look at Florida State Running Back Trey Benson

On April 26th 20204, the NFL Draft will be held in Detroit Michigan. As the day draws nearer more and more NFL prospects are looked at by draft pundits and experts. Let’s look at one of the top running back prospects Florida State’s Trey Benson.

21-year-old Trey Benson is 6’1” and weighs 221 lbs., he is from Greenville Mississippi. At the NFL Scouting Combine he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds with a 1.52 10-yard spilt. He has the size and speed to compete as an AFC North running back. In his final season at Florida State, he rushed for 906 yards on 156 carries with an average of 5.8 yards per carry and 14 rushing touchdowns. He was a second team all ACC player. A question to ask is, how would he fit on an already set Cleveland Browns roster?

With superstar running back Nick Chubb rehabbing from a serious week 2 knee injury in 2023. The Cleveland Browns could be looking at a running back in the second or third round of the NFL draft. However, this offseason in the free agency period the Cleveland Browns did sign running backs. D’onta Foreman and Nyheim Hines both signed with the Browns last month. The true tell of the Browns need at running back is the rehabilitation of Nick Chubb.

Last week the Cleveland Browns and Nick Chubb reworked the final year of his contract. It was considered a good deal for the Browns and Chubb. Chubb and his agent are betting on him earning the money on the contract incentives. The Browns are betting on Chubb having a productive 2024 season. Drafting a running back may not be the highest priority of the Cleveland Browns.  Once the NFL draft unfolds circumstances could change. Until that happens all we can do is speculate.
