3 Best Landing Spots For J.J. McCarthy In 2024 NFL Draft

J.J. McCarthy has led Michigan to the College Football Playoff in both seasons as a starter. Now, he has helped the Wolverines reach the National Championship Game.

McCarthy remains an interesting option come the 2024 NFL Draft. He is part of a run-heavy offensive scheme at Michigan and is not asked to do too much. At 6-foot-3, McCarthy is a mobile quarterback with a strong arm. It will be interesting to see how his game translates despite having all intangibles.

McCarthy has many options come the NFL Draft. Below, check out three options that could land the Wolverine quarterback come April.

3. New York Jets

There is no franchise more snake-bite when it comes to quarterbacks than the New York Jets. It took just four plays in a Jets’ uniform for Aaron Rodgers to tear his Achilles and end his season. Now, New York will feature a 40-year-old quarterback coming off a major injury. What could go wrong?

This might not happen in the first round considering a high draft selection but the Jets could be looking for a backup plan for Rodgers. This would also allow McCarthy to sit under Rodgers and learn from the future Hall-of-Famer.

We remember how Rodgers handled the news that the Green Bay Packers were selecting Jordan Love in 2020. This should not discourage the Jets from selecting a quarterback if the right one falls into their lap. At this moment, the team is in a terrible position after the Rodgers’ era, which will likely last two years at the most. Finding the next option would solve this problem right away.

2. Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders brought in Jimmy Garoppolo last offseason. This was not a successful marriage so the search is on for the next guy.

Antonio Pierce is looking like he deserves a chance to be the head coach moving forward. This means he will have a chance to select his own quarterback. Aidan O’Connell has shown flashes but he is not the long-term solution in Vegas. McCarthy is a winning player who would bring a certain attitude that the Raiders like.

The most important aspects of a team remain head coach and quarterback. The Raiders are hoping that Pierce is the right option on the sideline and could fill in the gap under center with McCarthy.

1. Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons realized that Desmond Ridder is not the future. Taylor Heinicke is a nice backup quarterback in the NFL. While he could remain in that role next season, the Falcons need a solidified starter, and a new head coach.

Arthur Smith makes head-scratching decisions on a weekly basis and this includes avoiding his best players for some reason. The Falcons need a new head coach that will utilize Bijan Robinson in the correct way. This would also make McCarthy comfortable, being in a run-first offense with weapons at skill positions. This includes Kyle Pitts and Drake London.

Atlanta remains in a weak NFC South and could turn into a contender by landing the right quarterback. The Falcons should be at the top of the list when looking into McCarthy and it could be a first-round option.
