White Sox select OF Casey Saucke in the fourth round of the 2024 draft (No. 107 overall)

With the 107th pick in the 2024 MLB draft, the White Sox used their fourth round selection on outfielder Casey Saucke of the University of Virginia.

Casey Saucke (MLB)

Keeping the theme, the White Sox are selecting in defiance of the MLB braintrust, using a No. 107 pick on the No. 127 prospect, which might even give you the feeling that Saucke would have been the White Sox pick in the third round had Nick McLain not been available.

Saucke (pronounced Sow-Kee) was regarded as the best position player on the U. of Virginia club in 2024, bringing great bat speed to the plate. There are the usual platitudes of “could add power” etc., but this is a corner outfielder who brings enough speed to possibly be thrown into center field once he sees his first pro reps this fall.

There’s another Casey Saucke in the Baseball Cube database, a shortstop at the turn of the century, so it’s possible Saucke is a legacy ballplayer. He (our Saucke) is a Rochester native who was the state of New York’s Player of the Year in 2021.

Saucke is a right-handed hitter who defies the White Sox trend of good bat discipline, although he doesn’t whiff a ton. There’s honestly not a number that jumps off of the page about Saucke. He has high-level experience, however, with College World Series participation as a Cavalier twice.

Also, trigger warning: There’s a broad resemblance to Zack Collins here.
