Rockets Down Wolves In OT To Clinch West Group A

The Houston Rockets are officially moving on to the quarter-final round of the Emirates NBA Cup.

Houston defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-111 in overtime to secure their third win in Cup play and 13th win on the season.

Once again, it was Alperen Sengun leading the way with a triple-double scoring 22 points to go along with 11 assists and 10 rebounds.

Three of Sengun’s fellow starters joined him in double figures as strong nights from Fred VanVleet, Dillion Brooks, and Jabari Smith Jr helped propel the Rockets.

Brooks came out firing from deep and never stopped as he knocked down four three-pointers en route to 22 points.

Looking to bounce back from a very rough game against the Blazers on Saturday, VanVleet scored a team-high 27 points and also had eight rebounds and 11 assists.

Tuesday was also one of Jabari Smith Jr’s better games of the season as he had 19 points and seven rebounds.

Bench production was a little slow for the Rockets in Minnesota but Amen Thompson had a strong night scoring 15 points.

After winning the opening frame 32-26, the Wolves had a big second-quarter opening run to give themselves the lead.

Houston would lead at halftime 57-47 and eventually saw their lead expand to as many as 18 points.

Still, however, the Wolves would come back to even lead late in the fourth quarter forcing the Rockets to do just enough to force the game into OT.

Overtime belonged solely to the Rockets as they outscored the Wolves 15-9 to come away with the win.

With that win, Houston is now 3-0 in Group Play in the NBA Cup with one more game to go against the Sacramento Kings next Tuesday.

Houston however, will be back in action today against the 76ers who will be without Joel Embiid and Paul George.
